Message

Welcome! I’m so happy you stopped by!

I’ll be honest, before I wrote this, I googled “message from our founder”. It’s true. You see I wanted to “fit in” and say all the right things. So I began to search for a heartfelt message that I could customize so that I would sound like all these other organizations with founders that have it all together. But what I was seeking only proved even more where I am. I read of founders who have 10, 20, 30, 40 + years of ministry under their belt, loads of experience and many stories of success.

I don’t have any of that.

I started The Tack Room in January 2013. It began with the Holy Spirit nudging my heart to help a young single mom and her baby boy at church. Because I have been there myself, I could see the struggle, worry, and weariness present on her face. After obeying the Spirit He began to birth within my heart a greater desire to reach more who were struggling. He also began to give me visions of what The Tack Room would look like and specifically how He wanted things to operate. Within 3 months The Tack Room opened and we began filling needs of children in our community. The Lord has blessed The Tack Room so abundantly that we have outgrown our space. We are making due and waiting on The Lord for our next steps.  He continues to increase the vision, slowly, and I’m thankful for that because I too have a toddler who keeps me busy! The visions of one day being able to bring together the passion for horses that I was born with and the love that I have for these children would be my biggest dream come true. My heart’s desire is to be able to provide a safe place for the children to interact with the horses to help mend and heal some of their brokenness, as well as “shop” at The Tack Room to fill their physical needs, and most importantly a place for us to introduce Jesus Christ into their lives.

I can see this place in my mind. I have prayed believing that The Lord will provide according to His will. I’m excited about what He’s going to do.

I can’t thank the community enough for all the support they have given and all the donations that continue to be supplied in order to keep filling the children’s needs. It has been incredible to witness the giving spirit of our community.

It would be extremely remiss of me not to pay special thanks to my family and especially my husband Jeff, for all the love and support to turn The Tack Room into a reality.

I don’t know too much about leading organizations, I haven’t done years of ministry, I’m learning as I go, but I do know The One who has called me and it is my commitment that I will carry out His mission as long as he tells me to. He led me to a passage in the Bible that is clearly becoming my desire and my commitment to those I serve, to the volunteers, to the team members, and to my community.

1 Thessalonians 5:11-21
11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. 12 Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. 13 Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. 14 And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt 21 but test them all; hold on to what is good

So as you can see, I decided I’d just shoot straight from the hip and sound like me. Maybe one day my message will change and I too will have years of ministry experience under my belt, but I’m positive parts of my message will remain the same. Please pray for this ministry and join me on this journey of growth, giving, and God.

Sincerely yours in service,
Millie Lewis
